Shimla (Mar 3): Shimla unit of CPI(M) today demeaned extension of winter vocations in schools, beside making ample transport facility to students by deploying more buses on concessional rates.

In a letter written to Shimla deputy commissioner, CPIM state secretariat member Tekinder Singh Panwar said that the party would like to seek intervention on the issues as schools, both the government and private, have opened up in Shimla district after winter vacations but the cold wave has not yet subsided.

“The Shimla town has a history of educational institutions that dates back to the British Raj. The calendar since then has been set in such a manner that the winters do not affect the children in schools and hence the schools used to open after March 15. It continued, but since last 2 to 3 years the session has been advanced and the small children are forced to face the wrath of inclement weather,” Panwar reminded.

“We demand that the schools be closed till March 10 as the weather forecast from the meteorological department also warns of snow and rain in days to come, thus aggravating the cold conditions,” he said.

Seeking immediate intervention on another issue about insufficient transport facility, the party said that the administration should call a meeting with the transport officials, parents and the managements of the schools to ensure ample transport facility to eradicated the precarious condition being faced by parents and their wards.
